O'Fallon is a nice spot for a summer run and picnic. The start is along a creek, and the trails are fairly well shaded. The trails lead you to the Bear Creek Trail (BCT), a few miles up from Lair 'o the Bear park. There's a great view of Mt. Evans from the scenic overlook. All the trails from the bottom, and above the BCT are hiker only. Watch for mountain bikers when crossing BCT. O'Fallon is part of the Denver Mountain Parks system.
Weather and Seasons
The trails are well shaded, so this is primarily a dry season trail. While the shade and water are great in the summer, snow and ice make it difficult in the winter. However, with fresh or hard packed snow, the trails are fun to run. With enough snow, it's good for snowshoeing. It's fairly well protected from the wind.
Driving Directions
Take hwy 74 ~6.5mi up from Morrison, ~2mi past Lair 'o the Bear. Turn left into the park, then right across the stone bridge to park. http://g.co/maps/8ec9x
Here are a couple of alternate routes to avoid traffic on C470, and through Morrison when there are events at Red Rocks:
For picnics, after the run, we'll gather at the tables, under the trees, just N of the main parking area.
There are lots of trails, so please bring a map, and stay with someone who knows the routes.
On Thursday nights, DTR has different routes at each run. The different routes are designed so that we can accommodate runners of different speeds and still start/finish at about the same time. See more info on choosing the appropriate route for you.

Here are a couple of alternate routes to avoid traffic on C470, and through Morrison when there are events at Red Rocks:
- via Grapevine - Continue W on I70, 3.5mi past C470. Take the Lookout Mtn exit, #256. Go left across the hwy, past the eastbound on ramp, then left on the frontage road, Grapevine. Take Grapevine down, then uphill. It turns to dirt near the top. Continue down the other side to hwy 74. Go right up hwy 74 for 3.6mi. http://goo.gl/maps/LL98e
- via Kerr Gulch - Continue W on I70, past C470, to Evergreen Parkway, exit #252. After the long off ramp, continue straight, through the light, on hwy 74. In 1.4mi, at the top of the hill, where hwy 74 curves right, turn left onto Kerr Gulch. The first mile down is very steep and curvy. It's fairly straight in the middle. The final mile or so is narrow. At the bottom, go left onto hwy 74, then a quick right into the park. http://goo.gl/maps/fDrN7
