Route Levels
DTR Thursday night runs are intended for trail runners of all abilities. We have a wide range of runners, from teens to 70s, from 2:30 marathoners to those who primarily hike the trails.
To accommodate a wide range of runners, we will have separate routes at each run. This allows us to start together, and finish at about the same time. Please choose the appropriate route for your ability. If you are unfamiliar with the trails, please review the maps in advance. Don't necessarily follow the people in front of you.
The sub-groups/routes are approximately defined as follows:
Level 5: sub-40 10km (road race time, not the pace on a hilly trail run)
Level 4: low-mid 40s 10km
Level 3: high 40s to mid 50s 10km
Level 2: high 50s to mid 60s 10km
Level 1: high 60s+ 10km and fast hikers
Not all runs accommodate 5 separate routes. On out-and-back trails (e.g. Lair 'o the Bear, Chimney Gulch), we use time to decide when to turn around.
Please respect the other runners by finishing within the designated time. We don't want to leave before everyone is finished, and it's not fair to make others wait a long time. Thursday night runs range from 45min to 1.5hrs long, depending on the time of year and trail location. The run time will be announced at the start of the run.
DTR runs are not races. We ask the faster runners to start slowly, to keep the group together for the first few minutes. After that, we spread out and naturally form smaller sub-groups and run different routes. We ask experienced runners to wait at key intersections to help guide newer runners.
See you on the trails.
