About DTR
Denver Trail Runners (DTR) is a FREE group for people who like running trails, in the Denver area. DTR is not a club - there is no formal or legal entity. As such, there are no dues or membership lists, and nothing to sign up for. Just show up for a run, or start one on your own.
Who are we? We're people who like trail running. We've had kids <10, and oldsters well over 70; fast (2:30 marathon) and slow (6:00+ marathon); dedicated mountain, ultra, all surface and road runners, road and off-road triathletes, mountain bikers who also like to run, people who just like to run trails but don't compete, and those who primarily hike the trails. All are welcome.
Leadership: It's made up of people who have been running with DTR for a while, and volunteered to help manage things: pick the run locations, send out and moderate messages, get the runs started, etc.
FAQs
Q: HOW DO I JOIN THE GROUP?
A: There's nothing to join - no dues, sign-ups, check-ins, etc. Just show up. However, you do have to visit our Facebook group or sign up for our Google Group email list to get the notices of where and when we're running.
Q: DO I HAVE TO JOIN FACEBOOK?
A: You will either want to get Facebook notifications or the emails that come from our Google Group email list.
Q: WHEN DO YOU RUN?
A: Currently, Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings, and whenever someone wants to plan a group run.
Q: WHERE DO YOU RUN?
A: The run location varies week to week. Check the weekly posts. Most of the runs are in the foothills west of Denver, around Morrison, Golden, Evergreen and SW Littleton. On weekends and holidays, we may venture further away.
Q: WHAT IF I AM A SLOW RUNNER?
A: At the Thursday evening runs, there usually are several different routes so that runners of different speeds can start and finish at about the same time. After the start, we naturally break up into sub-groups by pace, and regroup at key trail junctions. On the Sunday morning and other runs, we usually stop and regroup several times so that no one is left behind. The runs are not intended to be races. Some people hammer, others may hike the whole way. Please don't feel intimated or pressured to run and faster than you want.
Q: I'M VISITING DENVER. CAN I RUN WITH YOU?
A: Yes. No need to announce yourself or ask permission. Just show up.
Q: ARE THERE RULES FOR TRAIL RUNNING?
A: There are no rules, just general guidelines for etiquette on the trails.
Q: HOW DO I CHANGE MY CONTACT E-MAIL ADDRESS?
A: Unsubscribe from the old address and subscribe with the new one.
Q: CAN YOU ADD A FRIEND TO THE E-MAIL LIST?
A: No. It's self-service.
Q: HOW DO I GET TO THE RUN?
A: Directions are in the run announcement message and on this site in the TRAILS page.
Q: HOW FAR IS THE RUN?
A: We run for time, not miles on the trail. The Thursday runs are typically 1:00-1:20 - sometimes a little longer in the summer, and shorter in the winter. There are different routes for different speeds, so that at the same run, people will run different distances, while still running about the same time. The Sunday morning runs are about 1:30-2:00, with opportunities to go shorter or longer.
