Message Etiquette
There are two ways of reaching the Denver Trail Runners, Yahoo and Facebook. We have different guidelines for what is appropriate or not on each.
Yahoo: This is only for announcing runs, races and related events. No discussions or selling items/services. This is done to to limit the volume of messages. Please review the following guidelines:
Facebook: We are more liberal about posting on our Facebook page. In addition to what's allowed on Yahoo, we also allow and encourage discussion topics, requests for advice, and other stuff as long as it's related to trail, mountain or snowshoe running. Please no selling items/services or posts about road races.
Yahoo: This is only for announcing runs, races and related events. No discussions or selling items/services. This is done to to limit the volume of messages. Please review the following guidelines:
- Runs, regularly scheduled or other. Anyone can announce a group run, as long as it is on trails and/or mountain roads with significant elevation gain. For more info on how to start a group run, click the Runs page.
- Races - trail, mountain or snowshoeing.
- "Trail" means dirt, usually single or double track, with technical difficulty. Mostly smooth dirt (e.g., Highline Canal, Big Dry Creek) does not constitute a trail.
- Mountain road races are allowed as long as there is significant elevation gain (e.g., Mt. Evans). Other high altitude paved/dirt road races and ultras will be considered on a case by case basis.
- No road races please. There are plenty of other venues to promote those.
- Please limit your posts to two or three.
- No attachments (e.g., flyers, apps). Please use links instead.
- Events. This might include outdoor film festivals, clinics, volunteer trail building, road trips associated with a trail race, etc., as long as they are related to trail running.
- Other. Other trail related posts will be considered on a case by case basis. These might include requests for pacers, carpool to trail runs/races, but will depend on the volume of messages and whim of the moderators. Multiple pacer, carpool or similar requests might be combined into a single message by the moderators.
- Not allowed. The following are some of the types of messages that are not allowed:
- Selling items/services
- Posts about road races
- Requests for advice or other discussion topics
- Questions or comments on a run, DTR in general, or replies/questions about a post. Please reply to the author of the post, or click Contact for general questions about DTR.
